Black people, especially Nigerians, are superstitious people. We believe that there are hidden spiritual intonations and manipulation for any misfortune or challenge we face. If a person doesn't get married early because of his/her inability to find a suitable mate, we'll say maybe it's because of a "spirit husband/wife". The person or his/her loved ones will be advised and pressurized to seek spiritual/diabolical help.
If a couple experience delay in child birth, suggestions and insinuations from friends and family will conclude that it's a spiritual attack. In no time, the couple will be 'binding' and 'loosing' their enemies in the spirit realm so that they can get pregnant.
A person that fails to secure a good job is presumed to be under a satanic siege. Someone that suffers ill-health is under a spiritual attack. A battered and abused wife is being punished by her ancestral demons. An irresponsible man is being plagued by generational curse. The list goes on and on.
While I know human beings are sometimes indeed attacked spiritually and such attacks can only be overcome by engaging in spiritual exercises, not all problems/challenges and obstacles are spiritual attacks. Some of the problems/challenges and obstacles we face in life are caused by our own ignorance, negligence, attitudes, behaviours, actions, inactions, thoughts pattern, and incompetence. And there is no amount of praying and fasting that will be able to remove the negative effects and consequences of our shortcomings, except we search inward to discover where we are going wrong. While we pray and fast for spiritual strength and help, we should also attend to the physical aspect of things.
We should stop blaming our enemies for our challenges in life. We are simply giving them the power they do not have. You are enslaving yourself spiritually, mentally and psychological when you hold your unknown and known spiritual enemies for challenges in your life. No one can stop you if you do not stop yourself. No one can say No if you say Yes in agreement with God. Even if there are indeed enemies on your case, take responsibility for your life, your challenges and everything. Doing this will strip your enemies of power over your life. Believe that you hold the power over what will be and will not be in your life. The only one you need in your camp is God. So if things are not working, please take responsibility for that. Find out what the problem is, find out the solution to the problem. Find out those who can help with the problem, reach out to them, etc. Make things happen for yourself and they will happen.
Matured singles hoping to get married should hone their dating skills, inter-personal skills, knowledge base, social skills and start mingling. Couples that want children should start researching into possible causes of the delay and modern solutions for them. They should look also into alternative options and their health. People looking for jobs should look into getting more academic and career leverages to improve on their marketability. A woman that is facing abuse should add faith/action to her prayer. She should add faith to her prayer by physically leaving the abusive marriage till her abuser gets help. The irresponsible man should stop thinking his life is being destroyed by his enemies. He should stop drinking and going to clubs daily. He'll be surprised by the speed his irresponsibility will disappear and his enemies will lose the battle over his life.
Practical solutions to problems is the way to go friends. I'm not saying we shouldn't pray and fast. I'm not saying we shouldn't handle the spiritual end of things. It's very important we do. But we must also attend to the physical, practical and human side of the equation. We should take responsibility for every area of our lives and know that if anything is not working, it's not because of our enemies or an ancestral/generational curse, it's because we are not taking the initiative to find a solution to the problem by knowing what the problem is.
